What are the R-value requirements for our homes?
In St. Louis Missouri and surrounding cities we are in climate zone 4 (Except Marine). In this area the International Energy Conservation Codes (IECC) recommends that we have at least an R-38 in our ceilings/attics. An R-13 for a wood framed wall, an R-19 in our subfloors and an R-10 in our basement walls and crawlspaces.
Where is the greatest heat loss in our homes?
The typical home has about 35% of heat loss through the attic as well as about another 25% loss through walls, windows and doors. Another place we have great heat loss is through the floors where we lose another 15%. Spray foam insulation is the best solution to prevent heat loss in these areas of our home. Typically, spray foam can be applied to all of these are dramatically improving the energy efficiency of your home.
